Day 10: Op Amps 1

Operational Amplifiers

Today we learned about Operational Amplifiers (op amps). We learned about the different pins they have and what they are used for. The various examples and the lab did a great job of solidifying these topics.

As our first example, we were given a regular inverting amplifier and were asked to find the output voltage. Using Nodal analysis (and adding a voltage point V_1), we were able to find the voltage to be -4V.
Another example, just like the last amplifier circuit. We were able to find that the gain V_o/V_s (V_2/V_1 in our circuit) was 9/1 = 9. Therefore, the voltage voltage equaled to 9V and the current I_o = .362A.

Using the data sheet, we found the internal resistance and the output resistance of the OP-27. We used nodal analysis to find the output voltage for the non-ideal voltage. We used Resistor values such that R_f/R_i would equal the gain of 2 we desired.
Indeed we were able to find that the output voltage was very close to our calculated voltage of -2.08V when running positive 1 volts through the circuit.

Here is our plotted data of V_out to V_in. You can see the negative and positive saturation with the linear region. As you can see from the formula, the gain (slope of the linear region) is approximately -2. This further confirms our prior calculations.
